The Alabama Crimson Tide head to Fayetteville this week to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both teams are trending in opposite directions so far this season. Alabama is undefeated while Arkansas has lost four straight and already in danger of missing out on a bowl game. This also the third SEC conference game for both teams.
Nick Saban and Alabama are picking up right where they left off, coming off a national championship last season. The Crimson Tide so far are averaging 54.2 points per game, averaging a 41-point margin. The offense has been stout under quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The sophomore has thrown for 1,161 yards, 14 touchdowns and surprisingly no interceptions. With Saban having to choose between him and Jalen Hurts this fall camp, it seems like the head coach has made the right decision.
Alabama’s run defense has played well too, allowing an average of just 126.8 yards on the ground. For a team that had a few questions on offense and defense coming into this season, the Tide have certainly answered them in the first five weeks.
Arkansas hired Chad Morris to bring them back to a competitive state in the SEC. So far things have not gone his way. After beating Eastern Illinois on opening weekend, the Razorbacks are now 1-4 preparing to face arguably their toughest opponent. The worst loss occurred at home against North Texas.
The Razorbacks were out-coached an outplayed in a 44-17 blowout. Starting quarterback Ty Storey has had a rough start, only passing for 631 total yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions so far this year. Arkansas is only averaging 23.8 points per game and allowing 31.2 per game, leading to this abysmal start. Running up against a juggernaut in Alabama is not ideal.
